I’m back! Nils Douglas Hilborn was born on June 14 after a high risk pregnancy due to a subchorionic hematoma. Best day of my life, hands-down. After undergoing many fertility treatments and ultimately IVF, we had our miracle baby.
Due to the treatments trying to get pregnant, and bed rest during pregnancy, it has been a LONG time since I have trained. I have run here and there, but really the last time I have been in shape was in Rio…over 2 years ago. So here we are, new baby, 25 new pounds that are really trying to stay put, and feeling very happy, but very out of shape!
I am hoping to take this blog in the direction of sharing my return to running and the struggles and triumphs I face along the way. Of course, all while sprinkling in super cute pictures of Baby Nils. Nils is four and a half months and I have yet to put together a solid week of running, which is ok. To share my journey with you (and to selfishly keep myself motivated), each week I will share my daily runs, paces and all, as I try to get my fitness back. I hope to inspire other women coming back after baby as it is tough! I know fitness will come back. Will I be as competitive as I was prior to Nils? Honestly I don’t know. Right now, I feel that getting out of the door daily for a few weeks and getting motivated to run by following the running world again will be a step in the right direction. Nils is strictly breast-feeding until starting solids through baby-led feeding in December. I hope to make it to one year of nursing him along with solids. I am not sure how running fast and nursing coexist so if any Mamas have any advice for me, I would love to hear it!
Thursday 10/25/18-Run today after a few days off due to a pulled hamstring- 4 miles 8:30 pace. Up all night with a teething baby- Nils cut his first tooth this week! I taught an English class online at 5am and was out for a run at 5:30. Did some stretching and mobility exercises post run. Coffee me ASAP.
Ok, that is all for now. More to come next week!
