Oh man! The big 3-2! It is funny, I still feel like a kid! However, when I woke up and Matt wished me a happy 42nd birthday, I was not amused.
It has been an amazing 31st year:
1. New PR’s in the half-marathon, 15k, 10k, and 5k!
2. I was able to run in the 2012 US Olympic Marathon Trials with the ‘A’ standard. That was really exciting.
3. After living out west since 2000, I am so happy to be back in the Midwest.
4. After visiting the Hanson’s Olympic Distance Project in February, they invited me to join the team, I have been loving being here in Michigan. It is different training than I have done in the past, but I completely trust the process and am confident that once my body adapts, I will be super speedy!
I read a quote that whatever your successes are, there are people that helped you to get there. Thank you to Matt, Mom, Dad, Em, Lu, Hilborn family, Shannon & Mike, Christina, JT, Coach John, Coaches Kevin, Keith, Corey, and Don, Bandidos team mates, Hanson’s team mates, my sponsors Brooks and Perfect Foods Bars, my friends from Daily Mile that I still keep in touch with (how cool is that?), and all of my new and old friends that I have made or reconnected with in the past year. I appreciate all of your kind words, encouragement, love, and friendship.
I am so excited for this year. It will be full of new experiences and new PR’s!
OK, enough mush.
Philly Half Marathon last weekend was good. I still ran 90 miles that week w/ 8 miles @ 5:44 pace during my simulator 7 days before the race and an 8 mile cutdown 3 days prior to the race. My legs didn’t feel too fresh going in, but I was so excited to race and excited to see my improvement from Crim. I felt SO much better! I split a minute faster at the 10 mile mark than I did at Crim. The last 2 miles were pretty rough, I lost a lot of time in that last 5k. Definitely something I need to work on. I went out slow, hit the first 5k in a little over 18:00 so I am happy I didn’t go out blazing, but I did come undone towards the end there. I think I was 2nd American, so that is good for some $$. Yay!
The field was stacked! I ran 1:16:48 (my PR is 1:15:32 from 6/12) and I was 12th female! It was a great course and I would love to return next year fresh and tapered! Results here.
My big goal race for this segment is the Twin Cities 10 mile championships on October 7th. The 10 mile distance seems to be the bane of my existence, I don’t know what it is. So, I plan on nailing this race! Third time’s a charm…right? We are tapering for this race so I should be nice and fresh. I am so excited that Matt, my parents and my sister will be there. I am also excited to see my friends Mel, JT, and Ricardo run the full marathon!!
Iron update- I have been supplementing 2x a day. I took a new pill last night (Hemaplex) and my stomach was Craaaayyyyy-zzzaaaayyy during my long run. I don’t know if it was the pill or leftover Flu from yesterday. (yeah, that’s right, I got the flu on my birthday) Ugh. So I think I will take the pill in the morning and Floridix at night. The Ferrous Sulfate Elixer seemed to settle really well with me so I will order that again if things don’t get better.
Thanks for reading!
