Training Update

Hi Friends! I hope your summer is going well! Here is what I have been up to since running the Nordea Riga Marathon in May:

I took two wonderful weeks off of running. I love being an athlete, but after a long cycle, it felt good to have some downtime. We went to San Diego to watch my brother and sister run the Rock and Roll San Diego Marathon. They did awesome on a super warm and humid day. After two weeks off, I felt ready and excited to run again. Definitely refreshed.

We have been living in the mountains in Heber, Arizona about 6,700 feet since early June. I have been putting in some great training, running lots and lots of miles to prepare for my upcoming races. We love it up here and are so thankful Matt’s parents let us use the cabin so much. I know that running the monster hills up here with less oxygen will benefit me come fall racing season, which kicks off for me on Saturday!

End of Summer/Fall Racing Schedule

Cypress 10k, CA 7/26– I don’t race a lot of 5 and 10k’s so it will be good to see where I am at. Time to get on the pain train.

AFC Half Marathon, San Diego, CA 8/17 One of my favorite races of all time. This will be my 3rd time running it.

USA 20k Championships New Haven, CT 9/1 I have never run this before and am really looking forward to it. It will be a great final tune-up race for Twin Cities.

Twin Cities Marathon/US Marathon Champs, MN 10/5 I am so excited to run this marathon. I love going to Minnesota to race. This is my goal race and will cap off my fall racing. I can’t wait!

  2. Sounds like you are getting in some solid training while living the mountain life Ari! And you have put together a pretty exciting race schedule, you are going to do great at Twin Cities! My race season has been pushed back by two weeks 🙁 I found out last week that my goal race was abruptly cancelled for reasons unknown to me. I was shooting for a PR in that race and I was also one of the runners competing for the win as well. But I can’t change it so I’m just going to regroup and use the extra two weeks in get some final last minute tweaks before race season starts.   3. Sounds like a great vacay! I still haven’t paddle boarded 🙁 I must get on that. Being able to live at altitude for a bit is awesome. Hopefully I’ll get the chance some day. If you need a personal assistant, let me know, haha. I’m really good at laundry and cleaning and cooking 😉
    Your race schedule sounds perfect. Live the dream girl! How’s your little Gussie doing?! Bet he’s not so little any more.
